GSL went well. Everyone had fun, and there were funnelled exits aplenty.
Lots of fun jumps going on at SDA. Travis went through the ground course for a few new guys over spring break. If you know any Tech student (or a hot chick) who wants to do the course, let Travis know.
Opportunity fair forms will be turned in tomorrow, so FASET will happen. Everyone try to make at least one session!
There will only be two rigs at SDA this weekend: 260 and 210.
FASET. Greg will put together a video, and Nathan will be sending out an email about tabling. Also, does anyone want to build a trebuchet for Nathan?
Rig 3 will be back this weekend. Also, someone please look into the repack date for rig 5 for Steve. Rig 1 will be needing a repack soon- look out for messages from Steve about it.
Is this meeting time bad for everyone? If you'd like to see it moved, please discuss at next meeting or contact an officer.
Travis misses being in band sometimes. For your information, he played the french horn. Chris is a level and a half better than everyone else in his band. He plays drums, which is different from Naha, who plays percussion. They saw each other at the last concert, but just in passing.
Next GTweekend will be 3/13. Following weekend is Fitzgerald's boogie, possibly with a skyvan. State record attempt will be Saturday.
Naha defended the budget. Looks like we'll be getting money again! In related news, he may or may not wash his hands every four days. Definitely doesn't change jeans.
Fitzgerald Boogie is weekend of 3/17. If enough people are interested, we can take club gear to jump.
If you were part of the rained out canopy course and are interested in filming landings to be critiqued, talk to Travis.
Finally, look at the doodle sent out earlier by Nathan to decide when the next GT weekend will be.
1) Flip - good deal or not? Good date spot? And do you really know what you're eating?
2) Club shirts - if you ordered 'em, come get 'em (or let us know how to get it to you). Otherwise, they'll be given out first come first serve.
3) What is Mukho's name?
Thanks to everyone who came out to GT Weekend Parts I and II at SDA! Unfortunately, the first weekend was dreary and overcast, with no jumps. We had a great cookout though! Winners were the people who stayed for Sunday afternoon the second weekend. We'll be having another GT Weekend between now and spring break - look out for an email/doodle.
Gary wants to do a coach's course. Cost is $100 plus jumps, and it starts Fri at 9AM. Prereqs include a form, IRM, pretest, and to have sat through at least one jump course since AFF. Also, be very familiar with the A-card. Travis suggests anyone with over 100 jumps go through this course. Nathan will probably be doing a jump course at Tech soon, so you can sit in on that one.
Keep thinking about competing next year. If you're thinking about it, try to get in as many jumps as you can, with or without a team. The better you get now, when you find the rest of a team the easier it'll be.
Club dues go to Melanie, and Travis will be changing the locker code this weekend. Get them in ASAP. Also, rigs 8 and 9 have been accounted for and will be back in action soon.
Club meetings will be at a different time this semester. They are tentatively set for Thursdays at 8PM.
Collegiates went well, and the 4-way team was four points off of the podium. Everyone had fun and came back safely. For anyone interested in doing freefly in the future, the competition has gone up way high, so think real hard about it. By the way, if you want to see what is possible in a college skydiving team, look at some of the videos available here. By the way, congratulate Travis for his final collegiates appearance. He gave a beautiful speech about how hard work will lead to success and he is willing to work with you if you're looking to compete next year. Really, it brought tears to my eyes.
Thank Santa, we might have some extra jump funds. Possible GT Skydiving weekend at the dropzone, soonish. Warning: it is cold. Gloves, and quite possibly glove liners, recommended.
Motion to put together a packet of "Standard Operating Procedures" for club gear use, mostly for safety concerns (refer to recent Javelin incident case, Travis's reserve ride). If you have any ideas for things that should be included, email Melanie. For issues concerned only with personal safety (ex. deployment altitude, RSL use, freeflying, video, wingsuit), we will not be dictating hard rules. However, we may choose to require a briefing with officers or S&TA. Next meeting will be next Thursday at 8PM. SDA is open Friday through Sunday. Blue Skies!
As the semester ends and we move on into summer, it’s almost unbelievable to think about how much our club has done since this time last year. When we open the gear locker, we no longer see mismatched rigs and jumpsuits that look like they date back to the Civil War. When we climb onto the plane, we look like a real team now. We’ve got eight brand spankin’ new Javelin Odysseys (complete with spacer foam and other luxuries) and, not only do they match, but they all have hot new Flight Concepts canopies in them. We have everything ranging from a Manta 260 to a Sentry 170, and thrown in the mix we also have a Rage 185 so that more experienced jumpers can try out more shaped canopies before making decisions about what to purchase for their own personal gear.
